Magnesium and zinc are both lost through urine and sweat. Symptoms of zinc deficiency include impaired healing, increased infections, and impaired growth. Magnesium deficiency is associated with neuromuscular abnormalities, including muscle weakness, cramps, and structural damage of muscle fibres and organelles, as well as fatigue and muscle tremor.

The combination of zinc and magnesium aspartate in ZMA may aid in reducing lack of performance as a result of muscle weakness and/or tiredness as well as reduced cramping. It may also be helpful in recovery, healing and maintenance of a healthy immune system.
